Most newer Volvos have a forward-facing camera behind the windshield, and some also have a head-up display. That matters both for whether damage can be repaired and for which windshield must be fitted. Below you can see what Volvo itself says, and for which models.
What Volvo says
- Damage in the camera and sensor area (C40 Recharge): According to Volvo, even small chips, scratches and cracks in the camera and sensor area can affect the car’s forward detection. Such damage requires inspection, and Volvo recommends not repairing it but replacing the whole windshield.
- Calibration (C40 Recharge): When a windshield is installed, the forward-facing camera behind the glass requires function checks and calibration. The new windshield and its installation must meet Volvo’s specifications for safety and compatibility with the car’s features.
- Head-up display (XC60): Cars with a head-up display have a special windshield made for displaying the projected image. The correct version of the windshield must be fitted for the graphics to display correctly. The head-up display is optional equipment.

Repair or new windshield?
Outside the camera and sensor area, Volvo says minor chips and cracks can often be repaired if you act quickly. If the damage is in the area in front of the camera, a new windshield is Volvo’s recommended solution. Send us photos and we’ll assess whether stone chip repair is an option.
What we need to quote your Volvo
- The registration number — so we can look up model, year and variant.
- Photos of the damage, one close-up and one from further back, so we can see whether it is in the camera and sensor area.
- A photo of the camera housing behind the rear-view mirror.
- Whether the car has a head-up display — if you see your speed or navigation on the windshield, it does.
How it works
The replacement itself is a mobile service at the address you give us in Copenhagen and the surrounding area (up to about 50 km), when there is space and suitable conditions for the bonding work. At handover we tell you when the car can be driven and what to look out for in the first days — that depends on the adhesive and the weather. Because Volvo says the camera must be checked and calibrated after a new windshield, we plan it as part of the job. If the car needs calibration, our own team carries it out at a separate, suitable location — not at your address. The location, logistics and price are agreed with you before anything is booked.
Insurance and warranty
Whether the damage is covered depends on your own insurance. Under Insurance you can see what to have ready and how the process works. On our work we give a 2-year warranty on fitting and sealing from handover — see Quality and warranty.
