A side window is usually damaged in a break-in, vandalism, or by a stone hitting the glass while driving. A broken side window isn’t just a practical problem — it’s also a safety risk and leaves the car more exposed until the glass is replaced.
What should I do right after a side window breaks?
If there’s broken glass in and around the car, be careful when removing it, ideally with gloves. Try to temporarily cover the opening if the car needs to stand outside for a while, and contact us to arrange a replacement as soon as possible.
The replacement process
We replace the damaged window with a new one that fits your car’s model. On some cars there are elements in or around the side window that matter for the job — for example windows with built-in heating at the rear (typically more relevant for rear windows, see our page on rear window replacement). We clarify what’s relevant for your specific car when we review your request.
Mobile replacement — we come to you
You don’t need to drive to a workshop with a broken window. We come to you and replace the side window wherever the car is. Read more on our page about mobile glass service.
What affects the price
The price of a side window replacement depends, among other things, on the car’s make and model, the type of glass required, and any extra equipment in the window. We don’t quote a fixed price here, since it depends on your specific car — send us your details, and we’ll review the case and get back to you with a quote.
Insurance
If you have comprehensive cover or a separate glass cover, the glass damage can often be fully or partly covered. Your own out-of-pocket cost depends on your specific policy, excess, and type of damage. Read more on our insurance page.
Frequently asked questions about side windows
Can a side window be repaired instead of replaced?
Side windows are made of tempered glass, which shatters into many pieces rather than cracking — so in practice they can’t be repaired like a windshield, and need to be replaced.
Do I need to clear up the broken glass myself before you arrive?
It’s not required, but you’re welcome to carefully remove loose glass if it’s bothering you in the meantime. We clean up after the replacement itself.
