A windshield is typically replaced when the damage is too large or too poorly placed to be repaired — for example a crack, damage in the driver’s line of sight, or a stone chip that has grown. If you’re not sure, you can read more about stone chip repair — many chips can actually be repaired if caught in time.
When should the windshield be replaced instead of repaired?
As a starting point, it depends on the size, location, and type of damage. A crack, damage right in the driver’s line of sight, or damage that reaches the edge of the glass typically cannot be repaired safely and requires replacement. A smaller stone chip outside the line of sight can often be repaired instead — see our page on stone chip repair. We make the final assessment based on your specific car and damage, not on fixed rules alone.
Your car’s equipment matters
Many newer cars have equipment mounted at or integrated into the windshield, which affects which glass is needed and what happens after the replacement:
- Camera/sensor for driver-assistance systems — may require calibration after replacement, see our page on ADAS calibration.
- Rain sensor — detects rain and controls the wipers automatically.
- Heated windshield — helps defrost faster in winter.
- Head-up display (HUD) — projects information onto the windshield and requires glass compatible with the feature.
We ask about the relevant equipment in the quote wizard, so we order the right glass for your specific car.
Why calibration is often linked to windshield replacement
If a camera or sensors are mounted at the windshield, a replacement can affect whether they continue to read the road correctly. It is therefore common for a windshield replacement on cars with that kind of equipment to be followed up with a calibration. Read more about what that actually involves on our ADAS page.
Mobile replacement — we come to you
You don’t need to visit a workshop. We carry out the replacement wherever your car is — at home, at work, or another location that suits you. Read more about how the mobile service works in practice on our page about mobile glass service.
Insurance and windshields
If you have comprehensive cover or a separate glass cover, the glass damage can often be fully or partly covered. Your own out-of-pocket cost depends on your specific policy, excess, and type of damage. You can provide your insurance details in the quote wizard, and we’ll help you move forward in the process — regardless of which Danish insurance company you use. Read more on our insurance page.
How it works
You start by entering your license plate in the quote wizard, so we can find the right information about your car. You then describe the damage and the car’s equipment, indicate whether you’ll use insurance, and specify where the work should be carried out. We review the information and contact you with a quote before any work is started. See the full process on the How it works page.
Frequently asked questions about windshield replacement
Can I keep driving with a crack in the windshield until you arrive?
It depends on the size and location of the damage. A minor chip outside the line of sight is often less critical than a spreading crack or damage right in front of the driver. If you’re unsure about your specific damage, feel free to call us on 31 62 23 38.
Do I always need the camera recalibrated after a windshield replacement?
Only if your car has a camera or sensors mounted at the windshield. We clarify that as part of the quote wizard based on your car’s actual equipment. Read more on our ADAS page.
How long does a windshield replacement take?
It varies by car model and whether calibration is also needed. We give you an expected timeframe when we agree on a time and place with you — we don’t state a general time here, since it depends on the specific job.
Can you replace the windshield regardless of my car’s make and model?
Send us your license plate and a description of the damage through the quote wizard, and we’ll review your specific case and get back to you.
