Volkswagen windshields come in many variants. Two cars of the same model can have different glass depending on whether there is a camera by the rear-view mirror, whether the windshield is heated and whether the car has a head-up display. That’s why we start from the registration number and the car’s actual equipment — not just the model name.
What Volkswagen says about the equipment at the windshield
- Camera in the windshield (Golf): Volkswagen’s 2013 press material on the Golf describes a camera integrated in the windshield near the rear-view mirror. Among other things, it is used for automatic main beam (Light Assist and Dynamic Light Assist) and for recognising speed-limit and no-overtaking signs.
- Augmented reality head-up display (ID.3 and ID.4): Volkswagen introduced its AR head-up display in the ID.3 and ID.4. It projects information onto the windshield so it appears about 10 metres ahead of the car, using data from the front camera, the radar and the navigation. At launch it was part of an optional equipment package — not standard on every car.
- Climate windscreen: Volkswagen has offered a windshield that is heated without visible wires and reflects infrared light, as an option on models including the Golf, Golf Sportsvan, Tiguan, Sharan and Passat.

For you, this means a new windshield must match the camera bracket, heating, coating and any head-up display on your specific car. We have not found a public Volkswagen document on calibration after a windshield replacement that applies to every model, so we check Volkswagen’s instructions for your specific car to see whether the camera needs calibration.
What we need to quote your Volkswagen
- The registration number — we use it to look up model, year and variant.
- Photos of the damage, ideally one close-up and one from further back.
- A photo of the area behind the rear-view mirror, where the camera and sensors typically sit.
- Whether the car has a head-up display, and whether you have noticed the windshield being heated. If you’re unsure, answer “don’t know” in the quote wizard — we’ll check.
How it works
The replacement itself is a mobile service at the address you give us in Copenhagen and the surrounding area (up to about 50 km), when there is space and suitable conditions for the bonding work. At handover we tell you when the car can be driven and what to look out for in the first days — that depends on the adhesive and the weather. If the car needs calibration, our own team carries it out at a separate, suitable location — not at your address. The location, logistics and price are agreed with you before anything is booked.
We also replace glass on Volkswagen vans and electric cars — see van glass and glass for electric cars.
Insurance and warranty
Whether the damage is covered depends on your own insurance. Under Insurance you can see what to have ready and how the process works. On our work we give a 2-year warranty on fitting and sealing from handover — see Quality and warranty.
Frequently asked questions about Volkswagen
Do all ID.3 and ID.4 have a head-up display?
No. According to Volkswagen, the AR head-up display was part of an optional equipment package at launch. We find out whether your car has it and choose the glass accordingly.
Why does it matter whether the windshield is heated?
A heated windshield is a different part from an unheated one, even if the cars are otherwise the same. Volkswagen’s climate windscreen is heated without visible wires, so it can be hard to tell. That’s why we confirm the equipment before ordering.
Does the camera need calibration after the replacement?
It depends on the car and Volkswagen’s instructions for it. When it is needed, our own team carries out the calibration at a separate location — not at your address. Read more about ADAS calibration.
Can a stone chip in front of the camera be repaired?
If the damage is in front of the camera or in the driver’s direct view, a new windshield is often the right solution. We assess it from your photos. See stone chip repair.
Do you replace glass on Transporter, Caddy and ID. Buzz?
Yes. We replace glass on vans and on all other car brands. See van glass.
