Many Hyundai models have a camera and sensors at the windshield, but the equipment varies a lot between, for example, the i20, Kona, Tucson and IONIQ 5 — and between years and trim levels. Below you can see what Hyundai says about the IONIQ 5. It is not automatically the same for other Hyundai models, so we always check your specific car.
What Hyundai says about the IONIQ 5
- Front camera in the windshield: According to Hyundai, Lane Following Assist on the IONIQ 5 uses a windshield-mounted camera to detect lane markings and vehicles ahead.
- The glass affects the camera: The owner’s manual notes that Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist may not work properly if the camera looks through a tinted, filmed or coated windshield, damaged glass, or something stuck to the glass.
- Head-up display: If the car has a head-up display, Hyundai says a replacement windshield must be one designed for head-up display operation.
- Sensors at the top of the glass: The rain sensor and the light sensor sit at the upper edge of the windshield, and Hyundai says the sensor cover must not be removed.

What this means for the replacement
A new windshield for an IONIQ 5 must match the camera, the sensors and any head-up display, and it must not be tinted or filmed in the camera area. Whether the camera needs calibration afterwards depends on the car and Hyundai’s instructions for it. If the car needs calibration, our own team carries it out at a separate, suitable location — not at your address. The location, logistics and price are agreed with you before anything is booked.
What we need to quote your Hyundai
- The registration number — so we can look up model, year and variant.
- Photos of the damage, one close-up and one from further back, so we can see whether it is in the camera area.
- A photo of the area behind the rear-view mirror, where the camera and sensors sit.
- Whether the car has a head-up display — if you see your speed or navigation “floating” on the windshield, it does.
How it works
The replacement itself is a mobile service at the address you give us in Copenhagen and the surrounding area (up to about 50 km), when there is space and suitable conditions for the bonding work. At handover we tell you when the car can be driven and what to look out for in the first days — that depends on the adhesive and the weather. If you drive an electric car, read more about glass for electric cars.
Insurance and warranty
Whether the damage is covered depends on your own insurance. Under Insurance you can see what to have ready and how the process works. On our work we give a 2-year warranty on fitting and sealing from handover — see Quality and warranty.
Frequently asked questions about Hyundai
Does the same apply to my Tucson or Kona?
Not necessarily. What we refer to here comes from Hyundai’s material on the IONIQ 5. Other models can have different equipment, so we check your car from the registration number.
Why must the glass be designed for a head-up display?
Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 owner’s manual says a replacement windshield must be designed for head-up display operation. The glass is part of how the image is displayed correctly.
Can I put tint film on the new windshield?
Hyundai says a tinted, filmed or coated windshield can affect the camera. So don’t put film or stickers in the camera area.
Can a stone chip in the camera area be repaired?
Damage in front of the camera can affect how it works, so a new windshield is often the right solution there. Outside that area, small damage can often be repaired — see stone chip repair.
